About the HEIC to PNG converter

PNG saves every pixel exactly, so it's a good choice when you'll keep editing a photo, cut it out, or place it in a design. The files are much larger than JPG, so for sharing or email a JPG is usually better. HEIC photos are opened by Safari itself, or by a decoder that runs on your device in other browsers.

How to use it

  1. Drop your HEIC photos on the box above, or click to choose them.
  2. PNG is already selected; it has no quality setting because nothing is thrown away.
  3. Download each PNG, or all of them as a ZIP.

Which to choose: PNG or JPG?

PNG
Lossless and supports transparency. Best for editing, design and screenshots. Large files for photos (often 5 to 10 times a JPG).
JPG
Much smaller and opens everywhere. Best for sharing, email and websites. Use the HEIC to JPG converter for that.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converting happens in your browser, on your own device, so the pictures never reach a server.

Why is the PNG so big?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly. For a detailed photo that takes far more space than JPG or HEIC, which throw away detail the eye doesn't notice.

Does the PNG get a transparent background?

No. A photo has no transparent areas, so the PNG looks exactly like the original. You can remove the background afterwards in Image Studio.

Is the location data kept?

No. Camera details (EXIF), including the GPS location many phones save, aren't copied into the converted files. Photos are turned the right way up first, so nothing ends up sideways.
