Privacy notice · updated 5 October 2026

Your files are your business.

The short version: your files stay on your device. An account is optional, and it only stores what you choose to sync, publish or share.

Your files

Studios and tools open and process files inside your browser, on your device. The contents of files you open are not uploaded to Cromagnon's servers. Only a file's name, size and type are logged (see “Activity and security logs”).

Your work (documents, decks, spreadsheets and settings) is saved in your browser's own storage on your device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it, so export anything important.

If you install Cromagnon as an app, the pages you've opened are kept in your browser so they work offline. Your own files are not part of that.

Some tools run AI models on your device (for example Image Studio's background removal, object removal and colourise). The first time, the model file is downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and the code that runs it from jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net), then kept in your browser. Only the files are fetched: your photos are never sent to them.

If you create a free account

We store your email address, the name and profile details you choose to add, and your account settings, with our database provider (Supabase).

If you sign in to Study Studio, your decks, cards, study progress and any pictures or audio on your cards are synced to your account so they appear on your other devices.

Decks you publish to the public library are visible to everyone (text only — never pictures, audio, notes or progress). You can unpublish them at any time.

If you join a class, the teacher sees the display name you chose and a progress summary for the class decks only (cards studied and mastered, predicted recall, when you last studied) — never your answers or other decks. Leaving the class removes it.

If you turn on sync in Invoice Studio, your documents, clients, items and business details are kept in your account so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read them. Sync is off until you turn it on, separately on each device.

If you share an invoice as a link, a copy of that document is stored with a random, unguessable link. Anyone who has the link can see that document, download it and print it; it is not listed anywhere or shown to search engines. We count how often the link is opened. Turning the link off deletes the copy.

If you turn on sync in Document Studio or Excel Studio, your documents or open workbooks are kept in your account so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read them. Sync is off until you turn it on, on each device.

Cloud files: every account can keep up to 50 MB of files it chooses to save, in a private folder only that account can open.

When you make an account, we note where your first visit came from (for example a search engine, the site that linked to us, or a campaign tag), only as a short name such as "google" or "reddit.com". It helps us see how people find Cromagnon.

While you are signed in, we keep a list of the browsers you use (such as "Chrome on Windows") and when each was last used, so you can see them in Settings → Security and sign out everywhere else.

You can download everything in your account as one ZIP file from Settings → Privacy.

For signed-in users we record which tools you open (the tool's name and the time — never file contents), to show your history on your dashboard and improve Cromagnon.

Activity and security logs

To keep Cromagnon safe and spot abuse, we log when a studio or tool is opened and, when you add files to one, each file's name, size and type — never its contents. With each entry we store your IP address, the approximate location your IP points to (country and city), your browser and device type, and a random ID kept in your browser that groups one visitor's actions. This happens whether or not you're signed in; if you are, the entry is also linked to your account.

These logs are kept for 30 days and can only be seen by Cromagnon's administrators. We also keep anonymous daily totals of how often each tool is opened.

There are no advertising or cross-site tracking scripts on Cromagnon.

Payments

Everything on Cromagnon is free right now and no payments are taken.

For payments made earlier: card payments were handled by our payment provider, so we never saw or stored full card numbers. For manual methods (bank transfer, Wise, Payoneer, wallets, crypto) we keep the payment reference and any proof that was uploaded.

AI features

AI in Cromagnon is optional and uses your own key from a provider you choose (Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Groq, OpenAI or Anthropic). When you press an AI button, the text it needs goes straight from your browser to that provider, under that provider's own privacy terms — it doesn't pass through Cromagnon's servers and we don't keep it. On free plans some providers may use what you send to improve their models.

Your key is kept only in your browser on this device (or only until you close the tab, if you choose that); it isn't stored in your Cromagnon account. Remove it any time in Account → AI.

If Chrome's built-in AI is already on your device, you can use it instead: then the text never leaves your device.

Hosting and other services

Cromagnon is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard request data (such as IP address, browser and time) to deliver the site and keep it secure.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are used. It uses no cookies and doesn't follow you across other sites; it records the page, the referring site, and your country, browser and device type.

The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google.

Study Studio's text recognition downloads the language files it needs from a public content delivery network the first time you use a language.

Your choices

You can use every studio and tool without an account. You can export your work at any time, and download all your account data as a ZIP (Settings → Privacy).

To correct or delete your account data, or ask what we hold about you, contact us and we'll help.

Please don't send confidential file contents through the contact form.

Changes

We'll update this notice when Cromagnon adds features that handle data differently, and change the date at the top. Questions? Contact us.
