About Cromagnon
Real tools for everyday files, without the upload.
Cromagnon is a free set of 10 studios and 85+ quick tools for PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, data, images, slides, study, citations, maths and code. Everything runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
What we do
Most online file tools work the same way: you upload a document to someone else's server, wait, and download the result. That is slow, it often comes with limits, watermarks or a sign-up wall, and it means a copy of your contract, payslip or class notes now sits on a computer you don't control.
Cromagnon does the work inside your browser instead. Opening a PDF, cleaning a CSV file, merging spreadsheets, compressing photos or building flashcards all happen on your own device, using the same kind of technology that runs web apps such as online maps and editors. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to wait for and nothing to leak.
Who we are
Cromagnon is an independent project, started so that everyday file jobs no longer mean uploading private files. We build the studios and tools ourselves, test them with real files, and publish every change in the changelog (last updated 28 October 2026).
The name comes from the Cro-Magnon people, the early modern humans who painted the caves of Europe some 40,000 years ago. They made tools, counted on bones and kept records on walls. We still write, count, draw and share; we just want the tools to be free, private and quick for everyone.
What you can count on
- Your files stay on your device. Studios and tools process files in your browser. The privacy notice lists exactly what is and isn't recorded.
- Free, with no sign-up needed. Every studio and tool works without an account. A free account only adds sync between your devices.
- No watermarks and no ads. What you make is yours, as clean as you made it.
- Real formats. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and CSV files open and save in their real formats, so they keep working in the software your school or office uses.
- Plain guides. Every tool page explains how it works, its limits and the mistakes to avoid, written by people who use the tools.
How we decide what to build
Most new tools start as a message from someone who needed one. Suggestions, bug reports and files that didn't open properly come in through the contact page and our community channels, and the most requested jobs go to the top of the list. The status page shows whether everything is running, and the changelog shows what was fixed and added, with dates.
