About the Word text extractor

Pull the readable text out of a Word document (DOCX, and older DOC files where possible), paragraph by paragraph, without the formatting. Handy for pasting a document's text into an email, a website, a translation tool or a word counter, or for reading a Word file on a device without Word.

How to use it

  1. Open the Word file.
  2. Read the extracted paragraphs.
  3. Copy the text, or download it as a plain text file.

Tip: Need to keep the formatting? Open the file in Document Studio instead, and save it as DOCX, Markdown or HTML.

Questions

Which Word files work?

DOCX files, and older DOC files where their text can be read.

Are images and tables extracted?

The tool extracts the readable text. For the full document with tables and pictures, use Document Studio.

Can I count the words?

Yes: paste the text into the Word counter, or open the document in Document Studio's Word Count Pro.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is opened and processed in your browser; it never leaves your device and nothing is stored on a server.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit.
