About the Universal file viewer

Open almost any everyday file without installing the program that made it. Spreadsheets (CSV, XLS, XLSX), Word documents (DOCX), PowerPoint slides (PPTX), plain text and log files open right in your browser, so you can read a file someone sent you on a shared computer, a Chromebook or a phone. Several files can be open at once, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Press Open files, or drag one or more files onto the page.
  2. Pick a file from the list to view it: a table for spreadsheets, text for documents and slides.
  3. Search or scroll, then open the file in the matching studio if you need to edit it.

Tip: To edit rather than read, open the same file in Excel Studio, Document Studio or Presentation Studio.

Which file types can it open?

CSV, XLS and XLSX spreadsheets, DOCX documents, PPTX slides, TXT and LOG files.

Do I need Microsoft Office?

No. The files open in your browser on any computer, tablet or phone.

Can I edit the file here?

The viewer is for reading. Each studio (Excel, Document, Presentation) edits and saves that kind of file.

Can I open several files at once?

Yes. Open several and switch between them.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is opened and processed in your browser; it never leaves your device and nothing is stored on a server.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit on files.
