## What it does

WebP is a format from Google that many websites use because the files are small. When you save an image from a web page you often get a .webp file, which some older programs, printers and upload forms don't accept. JPG opens everywhere.

## How to use it

1. Drop your WebP files on the box above, or click to choose them.
2. JPG is already selected. JPG has no transparency, so pick the colour for any transparent areas (white by default).
3. Download the JPGs one by one or as a ZIP.

## Tips

- **Keep transparency?**: If the WebP is a logo or icon with a transparent background, convert it to PNG instead of JPG.
- **Animated WebP**: Animated WebP files keep only their first frame, because JPG can't hold animation.

### Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converting happens in your browser, on your own device, so the pictures never reach a server.

### Why do websites use WebP?

Google's own tests found lossy WebP files 25 to 34% smaller than JPG at the same quality, so pages load faster.

### Will the JPG look worse?

At quality 90 the JPG looks the same as the WebP. Both formats are lossy, so converting again and again slowly loses detail; keep the original if you can.

### Is the location data kept?

No. Camera details (EXIF), including the GPS location many phones save, aren't copied into the converted files. Photos are turned the right way up first, so nothing ends up sideways.
