Make PNG photos and screenshots much smaller by converting them to JPG. Free, up to 100 files at once, and nothing leaves your device.

- Use it: https://cromagnon.app/convert/png-to-jpg (free, runs in the browser)

## What it does

PNG keeps every pixel, which makes photos saved as PNG very large. JPG is made for photos and is often 5 to 10 times smaller with no visible difference, which helps with email limits, upload forms and website speed.

## How to use it

1. Drop your PNG files on the box above, or click to choose them.
2. JPG is selected. Set the quality (85 to 92 is a good range) and the colour for any transparent areas.
3. Download the JPGs, or all of them as a ZIP.

## When to keep PNG

- **Transparent backgrounds**: JPG can't be transparent; transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose.
- **Text, logos and diagrams**: Sharp edges and flat colours can get faint smudges in JPG. Keep PNG, or try PNG to WebP.
- **Photos and screenshots of photos**: JPG is the better choice: much smaller files.

## Questions

### Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converting happens in your browser, on your own device, so the pictures never reach a server.

### What quality should I choose?

90 for photos you care about, 80 for web pages and email. Below 70 you'll start to see blocky patches.

### Can I convert screenshots?

Yes. Screenshots of photos and web pages shrink a lot. Screenshots of mostly text stay sharper as PNG.
