Make website images smaller by converting JPG to WebP. Free, up to 100 images at once, and nothing is uploaded.

- Use it: https://cromagnon.app/convert/jpg-to-webp (free, runs in the browser)

## What it does

WebP files are usually noticeably smaller than JPG at the same visible quality (Google's tests found 25 to 34% smaller), so web pages load faster, which helps visitors and Core Web Vitals. All current browsers show WebP, including Safari since version 14.

## How to use it

1. Drop your JPG files on the box above, or click to choose them.
2. WebP is selected. Quality 80 to 85 is a good balance for websites.
3. Download the WebP files, or all of them as a ZIP.

## Tips

- **Compare first**: Convert one image at a few quality settings and compare the file sizes in the list before doing a whole batch.
- **Keep the originals**: Keep your JPGs: some email programs and older software still don't open WebP.

## Questions

### Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converting happens in your browser, on your own device, so the pictures never reach a server.

### Which browser do I need?

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can all save WebP. If a browser can't, the option is greyed out and says so.

### Should I use AVIF instead?

AVIF is often smaller still, but it takes longer to make and older devices can't show it. WebP is the safe choice for most websites.
